95. Youth Town Council. Photo: James Bunn/Canon EOS620/Fuji Sensia 100
In 1999 St Ives Town Council decided to give young people a taste of local government by creating a Youth Town Council, which shadows the activities of the full Council. The leading members of this experiment are Lewis Knights, David Williams and Chris Broom. All are sixth-formers at St Ivo School. Lewis (seated) is the chairman. He is studying A-level English, history, economics and art. An Arsenal supporter and golf-player, he plans to visit China this year with the school. Vice-chairman Chris Broom is studying history, politics and law. He's a member of the Conservative Future and helps at Conservative HQ in Huntingdon. He also plays golf and works at Waitrose. David Williams, the treasurer, is studying economics, history and sports studies. He plays football for Needingworth Colts under-17's and rugby for the school team, also tennis, and works in the Baker's Oven on Saturdays.
