The St Ivo Centre opened in 1974 funded by the old Town council. The Impressions fitness studio was part of a major re-fit in 1999, achieved by converting 4 squash courts. Ian Cousins, the Centre manager, trained in hotel management at the University Arms Hotel in Cambridge. In 1970 he came to St Ives as Catering Manager at the Golden Lion Hotel and joined the staff at the St Ivo Outdoor Centre in 1976. He is pictured here with Barney Hilsden and Michelle Weir on some of the exercise machines. Barney was educated at St Ivo School and Stoke University where he gained a BSc Hons degree in Exercise and Health. He was a part-time lifeguard before being appointed full-time Fitness Consultant in 1999. Michelle went to Ramsey Abbey School and Staffordshire University where she was awarded a BSc (Hons) degree in Exercise and Health. She is a spinning instructor and was appointed Fitness Manager in 1999.
