A well-known face in St Ives, Carol Stevens (formerly Stevenson) trained as a nurse at Westminster Hospital and specialised in midwifery at Lambeth Hospital, London, before moving to St Ives. She became District Nurse in 1973, employed by the old Huntingdon & Peterborough County Council, and from 1978 to 1998 was the nursing sister at The Spinney doctors' surgery. Carol's home in Church Street dates from 1680 and retains many of its original features.
