27. St Ives Sub Aqua Club. Photo: Gary Dean/Canon EOS 50E/Kodak Gold 200
The Club formed in 1976 is a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club and currently has about 40 members and 10 qualified instructors. Training is held weekly in the St Ivo Recreation Centre pool. The Club also organises dives at local gravel pits and coastal locations in the UK and abroad. The invention of the aqua-lung in the 1940s, and other advances in technology, has made sport diving increasingly popular. It is currently enjoyed by some 70,000 people in the UK.
