20. The Mosque, Needingworth Road, St Ives. Photo: Stuart Littlewood/Ricoh XR7/Ilford Delta 400
The Mosque was built by the Moslem community in 1985. At that time there were 15 Pakistani and 4 Bangladeshi families in the St Ives area. The money was raised nationally by voluntary contributions. Today the community numbers 80 families (about 350 people), the split being 50:50 Pakistani to Bangladeshi. The Committee (left to right) are Fida Hussain (Chairman), Safdar Hussain (Secretary) and Mohamed Fazel (Committee member). They provide spiritual and disciplinary guidance to the Community, and their work is voluntary and unpaid.
