Jean was Mayor of St Ives in 1983/4 and was Mayor for the second time as Year 2000 dawned. Her work with the Residents' and Ratepayers' Association encouraged her to stand for election to the Town Council in 1976, as an Independent. In 1982 she was also elected Conservative District Councillor for St Ives North. Jean was vice-chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council in 1996/7, and this year vice-chairman of Environmental Services and vice-chairman of the St Ivo Recreation Centre. In addition she has been chairman of the St Ives & District Road Safety Committee for many years. Away from public life Jean spends time with her family - 3 children and 6 grandchildren - and enjoys camping and caravanning with husband Mal.
